About Bitcoin (BTC)

Bitcoin (BTC) is the world's first decentralised digital currency, created in 2009 by the pseudonymous Satoshi Nakamoto. Unlike traditional money, Bitcoin operates without banks or central authorities. Transactions are verified by a global network of computers and recorded permanently on a public ledger called the blockchain.

Bitcoin has a fixed maximum supply of 21 million coins, making it mathematically scarce by design. It can be divided into 100 million units called satoshis (sats), meaning you can send as little as a fraction of a penny across the world instantly. The last Bitcoin is estimated to be mined around the year 2140.

Every four years, the reward for mining new Bitcoin is halved, an event known as the halving. This reduces the rate at which new Bitcoin enters circulation, reinforcing its scarcity over time.
